| Title: | DT Williams commits to Notre Dame |
| Story: | It must have been a long month or so for Ian Williams. First, he was ready to commit to the Florida Gators, his childhood team, and they turn around and tell him they are getting ready for their Bowl Game. Ian didn't hear from them in quite sometime and Florida basically told him they were not interested. But today approximately at 12:45pm EST, Ian Williams commited to a true family team in Notre Dame. After many months of speculation that Ian was going to commit to the Florida Gators, Ian ends up commiting to his second favorite team in Notre Dame. Ian is welcomed to a team which has not got a true DT for the last 2 years. This may mean plenty of extra time for Ian due to the limited numbers at DT. His 6'2" 297 pound frame should help solidify a deteriating interior line on defense. Ian selected the Irish due to academics, playing time, and of course the coach, Charlie Weis. Williams chose Notre Dame over Auburn in the end. It seemed he was a lock after being spurned by Florida and getting a visit last Thursday before paying his own way for an unofficial visit to South Bend on Friday of last week.
Ian seems to have a quick first step off the line which helps him get by blockers quickly. On running plays, he seems to stop his man and use him as a wall until a running back come by, then he throws the blocker and makes the tackle. He reminds me of a Gilbert Brown from the Green Bay Packers back in the day. Big run stuffer who can move and block up the middle of the defensive line. He also can blow his man off the line and drive him back right into the quarterback or running back. |
